Telling pretty much the
same story of a relationship, break-up and heartache from three different
points in time seems to be the basic premise of this highly impressive small
press comic book. Using fairly crispy, semi-realisic, very well-paced artwork,
Brubaker gives us the viewpoint of the dumped boyfriend whose ex-girlfriend
moves in with his best friend/nextdoor neighbour in "Under a Big Black Sun;"
That same boyfriend's confused life before that relationship in "Wreck;"
and the ex-girlfriend's internal perspective on things before she finally
dumps him, in "When I Started Saying 'We';" My fave of the bunch. All three
anecdotal tales struck me as being incredibly rich character studies, with
each being highly entertaining and truly satisfying reads.
