But if you want a guaranteed laugh, might I humbly direct you to the HICKEE ANTHOLOGY and HICKEE #1, both from Alternative Comics. HICKEE is the brainchild of Graham Anable, a very funny cartoonist responsible for the very funny GRICKLE graphic novel. Anable, a California bay-area animator got together with a bunch of his animation buddies and started drawing funny strips and riffing off one another until they thought “Hey, let’s slap this together and make a book”. Luckily, it was really good. These guys are surprisingly good cartoonists (animation experience doesn’t always translate into good comics…), and the material is genuinely funny. I laughed out loud a bunch while reading the first volume, and I can only assume that the ongoing series will be as good. Make sure to pre-order this one, most stores won’t have it.
