"Compares favorably with Pico Iyer’s wonderful essays on travels through Asia, and ... that’s high praise indeed."
— Mark Nevins, Strapazin
"A satisfying trip around the world for the reader, without ever leaving the comfort of their couch. As soon as Neufeld wants to take us on another journey, I'll be reserving my seat."
— Greg McElhatton, iComics
"[Neufeld] is an efficient, pleasing storyteller, achieving dynamics with a simple style through use of tones and the occasional borderless panel.... He bears watching."
— Chris Allen, "Breakdowns"

By Josh Neufeld. Full-color covers, green
ink on cream paper interiors. 24 pages, $2.95 ISBN: 1-891867-51-2
In The Vagabonds, Josh Neufeld uses gentle humor and a keen eye for
revelatory detail to explore religion, global politics and the mysteries
of everyday
life, in locales as diverse as the Thai countryside, San Francisco and
New York City.
Stranded in a remote
corner of Thailand, Josh and Sari are taken in by a family of Baptist
missionaries. New perspectives — the missionary view of Thai life
and the Buddhist view of fireboats — force them to confront their
own spiritual longings.
Comics Worth Reading observes that Neufeld's comics "provide
a street-level view of other cultures, with nothing whitewashed.... The
stories often remind us of the point of travelling — to experience
and come to terms with the unknown, and ultimately to address your own
spirituality and reason for being." Isn't it time you took a trip
with The Vagabonds?
Josh Neufeld co-created Keyhole (which ran for six issues with
two different publishers) with Dean Haspiel. He is the co-creator and
illustrator of Titans of Finance (also
published by Alternative Comics). He has been a long-time artist for
Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor and have contributed
to anthologies such as The EXPO, StripBurger, World War 3 Illustrated,
The Big Book of Urban Legends and Duplex Planet Illustrated.
His comics have also appeared in Fortune Small Business, The Village
Voice, The Chicago Reader, In
These Times and Green magazine, as well as many other venues.
He resides in Brooklyn and makes a living mixing freelance illustration
with web
design.
