James Kochalka James Kochalka's distinction as a "rock star" has been tempered more and more lately by his acclaim as a cartoonist. Critics and fans have responded like crazy to his full length comic books and graphic novels and to his ubiquitous and instantly recognizable one-pagers in comics and magazines across the world. Kochalka has won and has been nominated for many prestigious awards such as the Ignatz award, the Eisner award, the Firecracker Alternative Books award, and the Harvey award.
James Kochalka's most recent book from Alternative Comics is The Cute Manifesto, which debuted at the end of July 2005. In 2004 Alternative Comics released James' all-ages Peanutbutter & Jeremy's Best Book Ever and it was subsequently nominated for the Eisner Award for "Best Title for a Younger Audience."
Before that, were Triple Dare #2 and James' graphic novel Fantastic Butterflies, both released Summer 2002. James Kochalka has been an integral part of the Triple Dare anthology series that first debuted May 1998. James Kochalka's more realistic art style was first used in his introspective, philosophical Sunburn published September 2000. James pencilled the artwork for Monica's Story, the comic book adaptation of the Starr Report, that shipped from Alternative Comics February 1999. James' critically acclaimed The Horrible Truth About Comics was released in January 1999. Alternative Comics also published Kochalka's Quit Your Job graphic novel in August 1998. James Kochalka first published with Alternative Comics way back in May 1998 with Mermaid, a panoramic 42-page story of love and beauty. As for music, James is currently signed to the Rykodisc label. James has issued seven CDs: "Our Most Beloved" from Rykodisc, "Carrot Boy the Beautiful" through Sudden Shame Records, "The True Story of James Kochalka Superstar" through Dot Dot Dash, "Monkey vs. Robot" through Tarquin Records, "KISSERS" through Highwater Books, the self-released "Don't Trust Whitey", and the "Danger Force Five Singles Club" from Dangerfive Records.
