Monkey vs. RobotJames Kochalka's Monkey vs. Robot nominated for Harvey Award

James Kochalka's epic Monkey vs. Robot graphic novel has been nominated for a 2001 Harvey Award for Best Graphic Album of Original Work. Named after the late comics genius Harvey Kurtzman, the Harvey Awards honor outstanding work in comics and sequential art. Nominations for the Harvey Awards are selected exclusively by comics creators — those who write, draw, ink, letter, color, design, edit, or are otherwise involved in a creative capacity in the comics field. The 2001 Harvey Awards Ceremony will take place on Friday, April 27th at the Pittsburgh Comicon.

James Kochalka's distinction as a "rock star" has been tempered more and more lately by his acclaim as a cartoonist. Critics and fans have responded like crazy to his ubiquitous and instantly recognizable one-pagers in comics and magazines across the U.S., to his many wonderful comic books, and to his amazing graphic novels. Kochalka has won and has been nominated for many presigious awards such as the Ignatz award, the Eisner award, the Firecracker Alternative Books award, and the Harvey award.

James Kochalka is one of the most prolific and distinctive artists in the comics scene today, his simple figures conveying a wealth of emotional nuance. Some of his most recent graphic novels include Monkey vs. Robot, Quit Your Job, The Perfect Planet and Other Stories, Kissers, Tiny Bubbles, and Magic Boy and Girlfriend. Some of his most recent comic books include Monica's Story, The Horrible Truth About Comics, Triple Dare, and Mermaid.
