Job, girl, and apartment having fallen out from under him, New Yorker Jensen got a 60-day bus pass and lit out; first stop, Boston; then Concord, Cleveland, Columbus, Champaign, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Seattle, Eugene, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, El Paso, Austin, Birmingham, Atlanta, and Gainesville before the up-coast haul back to the Port Authority terminal—10,000 miles in all. En route, he crashed with Internet contacts, only some of whom he had met beforehand in person. He asked each host for a story, and he incorporates their responses into his six-panel-per-page travel report. His NYC landlady's tardiness in refunding his deposit made him run out of funds beyond the West Coast; even when she came through so he could make a small ATM withdrawal, her check promptly bounced, and he went in debt. He is a straightforward, blunt-edged, black-and-white cartoonist (grays are all benday dots) who seldom ventures from the perpendicular in angle of regard, but his minimalism here produces something richly resonant for anyone who was ever young and at loose ends.
