Triple Dare #1
Each issue contains a 10-page story each from Tom Hart (Hutch Owen's Working Hard, The Sands), James Kochalka (Paradise Sucks, Magic Boy and the Word of God), and Jon Lewis (True Swamp, Spectacles). Each of their stories stands on its own, yet are subtly linked by a secret set of "dares" the three work out in advance. In issue one we kept it obvious all three stories share the same title (in addition to a couple other less obvious correspondences). Now, from a trio of cartoonists less exuberant and downright hilarious as these guys, this could turn out to be a rather clinical, inaccessible book. But what they've come up with is one of the friendliest comics around. Their individual approaches share a wonderful cartoony yet poetic quality, yet their differences make the whole thing as satisfying as turkey and Swiss on rye. We hope you'll try out this team effort from three of the most exciting young "post-alternative" creators around! This issue also features a special full color back cover by Steven Weissman (Yikes, Don't Call Me Stupid), also following the three dares in this issue. Triple Dare #1 in stores May, 1998
